  • Elon Musk gave his take on how he thinks the GOP could do better on a GOP donor pullout.

  • Musk said the party should show more compassion for immigrants and stay “out of people’s bedrooms.”

  • Musk is a recent convert to the Republican vote, having been a lifelong Democrat.

Elon Musk expressed his thoughts on how the Republican Party should change at an annual GOP donor retreat in Wyoming, Axios reports.

The retreat was arranged by Minority House leader Kevin McCarthy, who interviewed Musk as part of an informal question-and-answer talk on Tuesday, multiple outlets reported.

After being asked by a donor how he could improve the GOP, Musk said he needs to show more compassion for immigrants, attendees at the fireside chat told Axios.

Musk, who is an immigrant originally from South Africa, added that immigrants are vital to a healthy economy, according to Axios.

During the event, Musk also said the US would benefit from Republicans staying “out of people’s bedrooms,” adding that the Democratic Party should stay “out of people’s wallets,” according to Axios, having complained about his $11 billion tax bill.

Musk had no immediate comment when contacted by Insider outside of regular US business hours for comment on the Axios report.

Musk’s public policies changed this year after he announced at a Miami tech conference in May that while he had previously voted “overwhelmingly Democrat,” he would prefer vote republican in the next election cycle.

Musk also described himself as a “moderate” and “neither a Republican nor a Democrat.”

He announced in June that he had issued his first ballot for a Republican candidate in a Texas special election, and expressed Some Support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a possible presidential candidate.
