Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his ex-wife, Melinda, have listed a five-bedroom house they own in Hyde Park for $1.55 million.
In the spring of 2018, an entity linked to the Gates family paid $1.25 million to buy the house, which is just a few doors down from the University of Chicago Athletics Center. Although no one has formally confirmed that the house was purchased as a place for Gates’ son Rory to live while he was in college, People magazine reported in June that Rory Gates had graduated from the University of Chicago.
Bill and Melinda Gates divorced in late 2021, and there is no evidence the property has changed hands since its purchase in 2018. Now, the Kirkland, Washington-based Union Street Trust, which is linked to Bill and Melinda Gates , is selling the property. Hyde Park House.
Built in 1902, the three-story home has 4 1/2 baths, hardwood floors, custom window coverings, and an eat-in kitchen with professional appliances, Shaker white cabinets with glass headers, tile backsplash, an island with a bar seating and a large breakfast area with patio doors leading outside to a terrace. Other features include melted snow on the front steps, a second floor master bedroom suite with a private balcony, and a finished basement with a large family room.
Listing agent Jason O’Beirne declined to comment on the listing.
The home had a property tax bill of $20,369 in tax year 2020.
Forbes magazine this year identified Bill Gates as the fourth richest person in the world, with a net worth of $129.8 billion.
