FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom, July 16, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — With demand for international air travel picking up following the ongoing recovery in many domestic markets, Boeing [NYSE: BA] projected demand today for more than 41,000 new planes until 2041, underlining the resilience of the aviation industry two years after the start of the pandemic. Boeing released its 2022 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO), the company’s long-term annual forecast, ahead of the Farnborough International Airshow.

The CMO forecasts a market value of $7.2 billion for new aircraft deliveries, with the global fleet increasing 80% to 2041 compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. About half of passenger aircraft deliveries will replace current models, improving reliability fuel efficiency and sustainability of the global fleet. In addition, Boeing Global Services forecasts $3.6 billion in demand in its market segments during the same time period, including strong demand for maintenance and modifications, such as converted freighters; digital solutions that increase efficiency and reduce costs; and effective training to enable the supply of pilots and technicians.

The 2022 CMO includes these regional projections over the next 20 years:

  • Continuing its strong growth story, Asian markets account for approximately 40% of long-term global demand for new aircraft. Europe Y North America each accounts for just over 20% of demand, with 15% of deliveries going to other regions.

Single-aisle aircraft will account for 75% of all new deliveries, unchanged from last year’s CMO, and totaling nearly 31,000 aircraft. Through 2041, new wide-body aircraft will account for around 18% of deliveries with more than 7,200 aircraft, enabling airlines to serve new and existing passenger and cargo markets more efficiently than in the past.

The CMO also predicts continued strong demand for dedicated freighters to support global supply chains and growing express networks. Carriers will need an additional 2,800 freighters overall, including 940 new wide-body models in addition to converted wide- and narrow-body freighters during the forecast period.
